White chocolate buttercream is a perfect topping for almost every cupcake and it's so easy to make!

This white chocolate frosting is perfect for a number of cakes including my favorite raspberry lemon cupcakes.

Use this frosting on these white chocolate cupcakes. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 3 oz. white chocolate
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp. milk

    Instructions

    1. Melt the chocolate over a double broiler or in the microwave until it is runny, but smooth.
    2. Add the milk to the chocolate and stir until smooth.
    3. Pour the mixture in a bowl to cool.
    4. In another bowl, beat the butter and vanilla until blended.
    5. Add the butter and vanilla to the chocolate and continue beating until smooth.
    6. Add the sugar in three parts, beating until blended after each addition. Beat the mixture until it is thick like whipped cream.

Sounds so wonderful. Can make it with milk chocolate too?

    brittanytodd 3 weeks ago

Yes! You can use the same amount, but you may want to microwave the chocolate because it is softer. Thanks for reading.

Sounds so delicious! I need to frost a cake with this buttercream, do you think it would work well for that function? Also, do you think I could make it ahead and freeze it like I do many other buttercreams? Thanks!

Thank you, Abbie. Yes! This recipe is perfect for frosting cakes and you can put it in the fridge to keep cool.

Can you tell me how long this would last out of the fridge please? I am thinking about using it to ice my wedding cake :)

brittanytodd 2 weeks ago via iphone

It could last up to five hours outside of the fridge if it isn't too hot. Just make sure to keep it in the shade (if outdoors) or inside a building (preferably with AC). Congratulations on your wedding!!! I hope you have a great one!

Hello again :) The buttercream turned out really well! I was worried about adding the milk to the melted chocolate for fear it would seize and it DID seize, but the buttercream still turned out great. I'm just wondering if the chocolate seizes when you make it? Is there anything you do differently or is that just to be expected? Thanks!

    brittanytodd 2 days ago

It will seize. Keep it in a cool place while stirring and make sure not to put on any cakes or cupcakes too early. Thank you and I'm glad you liked it!
